I am an artist based in Burley, Leeds. I am also the founder of Leeds Drawing Club (2007) and Body Matters Project (2023)
About Me
I studied Theatre Design at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts, London (Graduating 2005) and after a period working as a Set Designer, I returned to Leeds to set up Leeds Drawing Club in 2007, and Cafe 164 & the Gallery at 164, in Munro House, Leeds city centre 2011 - 2023. Throughout my career in hospitality and the arts over the last decade, I have curated many exhibitions, designed and delivered public projects, and hosted a diverse range of events intertwining food and the arts.
Highlights include 'City of Cake, 2016', an Immersive & Edible Art Installation depicting the iconic buildings of Leeds, made out of cake, and displayed inside Trinity Shopping Centre (Pictured, Leeds Town Hall Cake)

I also work on my own practice here. The work I make in my studio centres on drawing people from observation, learning their stories and building narratives and character into my drawings. I am drawn to working on a large scale and enjoy the impact that a large drawing can have both in the physical sense of making the work, and the experience the viewer has in engaging with it.
Commissions are always a much more practical size!
I am less concerned with replicating exact reality and really interested in exploring and drawing the place between what's real and what's imagined or perceived to be real. Playing with proportion, mark making & colour to explore and create narratives in a drawing.
My drawings sit between a realistic representation and a character study. The person is always recognisable and yet they have often been described as having something otherworldly about them.
